THE WORLD OF POLYPROPYLENE
-
Our world is rapidly becoming overcrowded and polluted. Essentially, we all need to do our part to stop and reverse this situation. The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), integrated into the European Union Green Deal, aims to minimize the environmental impact of packaging by reducing waste volumes through concrete measures and requirements, and by promoting reuse and recycling. The PPWR completed its preparations at the end of 2024 and was published in the EU Official Journal on 22 January 2025 under number 2025/40. It officially entered into force on 12 February 2025. The vast majority of PPWR provisions will come into effect from 12 August 2026 and will be required to be implemented in all EU member states. At this point, the previous Packaging Directive 994/62EC will be largely repealed.

The extensive changes to mandatory reuse obligations, particularly for industrial and commercial packaging, are noteworthy. There are also new requirements for certain takeaway foods and beverages that must allow for refillability and include the obligation to offer reusable options.

It is obtained by polymerizing PP (Polypropylene) with a catalyst derived from the distillation of petroleum. Polypropylene (PP) sheets are produced by converting polypropylene raw materials (homopolymer & copolymer 440g & masterbatch) into sheet form using an extruder. Food-grade and antistatic raw materials are also used.
